I really like living in Central Missouri. My number one reason you ask?
I love the fact that we have 4 distinct seasons each year. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
But last night I was reminded of the number one reason I hate living in Missouri. It can be easily summed up in two words...
Tornado Alley.
I am terrified of tornados. I have re-occuring nightmares about tornados. I refuse to live in any house that doesn't have a basement for that reason alone.
Maybe it's because with tornados you have to hide from them. Everything else you have to get away from and eventually will get far enough away from whatever disaster and be safe. But tornados, they are unexpected, fast and you have to cower and hide and hope it doesn't hit you.
I'm really afraid of what would happen if my house got blown down while we were in the basement.
During the summer if my husband isn't home I call my MIL to come to my house and hold my hand. Well, at least sit by me while I watch the minute by minute coverage by the local TV station.
I'm such a baby, I know. I also have emergency items in my basement that I keep in plastic baggies. Like candles, matches, and some peel-top canned food and bottled water.
I'm nothing if not well prepared.
Okay, so I'll be holding my breath until September.
