Why is it when I ask my husband to "help me with something", he hears, "please come annoy me!".

Example-I'm in the kitchen cooking our dinner, food for the kids because they won't eat what we're eating, washing dishes and putting away the dishes in the dishwasher, all at the same time. All the while Emily is wrapped around my leg, why? I don't know.

So I yell into the living room,"Hey honey, could you please come help me with Emily?"

To which he responds by coming in and stirring whatever is cooking on the stove, closes the dishwasher and goes back into the living room.

WTF? Didn't I just specifically ask for help with Emily? I did, right?

So I have to ask for him again, and then I have to explain that I'd like for him to take Emily with him into the other room, just until I get to a point where I can finish what I'm doing with her on my hip.

He just looks at me blankly, and says, "Okay, I'll finish cooking supper."

THATS NOT WHAT I ASKED YOU TO DO!!!!

After the last time I finally had to explain something to him. And it sort of opened my own eyes to put words to my feelings.

I calm down (very quickly)and am breathing normally and my eyes are back in their sockets and told him very plainly, "I'm the sort of person who shows you I love you by doing things for you. Things I consider to be my job because I'm your wife and the mother of our children. I enjoy cooking, I WANT to cook dinnner, and do dishes and clean the kitchen. However I'd appreciate your efforts to help me much more by just doing what I ask you to do. Please, let me be the wife and you be the dad playing on the living room floor with our kids."

His eyes opened too and the light came on! He took Emily and went into the living room.

Finally.
